Which are the changes that I would like to make in the school and make me stay longer in Kathmandu?
Since the opportunity appears, I centered my study in two questions:
What to teach?
When and How?
A lot of people woul say that the first question is really dificult to answer, and it is, but is more easy whitout involve ideologies. At least I have tried to adopt a scientific actitude.
In the school, from the nursery till the end of primary education, all seems center in give to the students all the knowledge to pass some exams. The education becomes a way to just make the students able to pass the exam. And also, there is the problem of the methodologies of the teachers, that is not really good. It's sorprising the good results of some of the kids, but it also shows what a good education would be able to do with that children.
So, after critisize and add my own ideas the next points came out:
1- The most important its the development inteleectual, emotional and physical of the children. The intellectual development doesn't just include knowledge. Also the development in memory, atention, creativity are important. Is true that the the teaching and learning of some subjects help in the development of this areas, but extra-activities and better metodologies could help a lot.
2- Due to this principle, examinations will be just one form of evaluation(until now they are the only one) to know the state of the child, and the evaluation will be a part of the education, not the education a tool for the examinations.
3- To get a better development is neccessary to center as much as possible in each pupil, to know their potentials and try to him/er to reach them. Fo that, I will try to make intelligent test, emotional, test, interviews and any other ideas to get a more accurate knoledge of each student.
4- to get a major efficinecy, the size of the classes need to be as smaller as possible. Ideal no more that 12. Also, and talking about methodologies, to help in the development the lessons need to be design in one way in which the pupil is a active member in the teaching procces taking the knowledge by himself, instead of give to him the rules written in one paper. For that, the teacher need to be a guide and monitor in such activities, instead of an aoturithy.
5- to the development of the lessons, a control in the contents of the subjetcs by level and age will be made, so just what the student is ready to learn will be tought.
6- I also will try to create lessons and subjects to the vreative development of the pupils, not justin art, also in science and tecnologhy.
7- To promote critical spiryt and automotivation I will crate groups or extra-activites in whichi volunteer students of diverse levels will elaborate through one year works in one area. I thought about climate change, schooolar, newspapaer, international geogrpahy, Nepal history, ... and also the kids will have the change to offer their own ideas.
8- A farm will be create in the school, so the children will learn directly facts about basic natural science, cultural facts, and more. At the beginnig will be just plants, but I'm thinking in also buy small animals like rabbits and chiken.
9- I'm also thinking in create a reciclying project to the area of Ranibari, where is the school, which the school as a center and the kids as a workers to promote a more responsible treatment of the rubbish. This valley is beautifull, but in the last thirty years it has been quiclky become really polluted.
This are the main ideas. Any other idea, comentary and critic is hearthly wellcome.
